my approach

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”

3 JOHN 1:2

Philosophy

food is medicine.

It seems more and more that we are taught even from a young age to rely turn to medicine first, before even considering what we are putting in and on our bodies, how toxic our environments may be, how active we are, how much time we spend in nature, etc. All of these things should be the first thing we look at when facing new symptoms. This is truly the way to real and lasting health and wellbeing. This is no band aid approach. It works, which is why it is my chosen approach. I use a variety of tools to assess your symptoms and how they may be related to a breakdown in the body.  Symptoms are the body’s alarm system, and we can use them to understand what is needed to bring the body back into balance before things get more imbalanced to the point of disease. I do not diagnose or treat, but rather, work with you to bring the body back into balance, thereby reducing or eliminating symptoms completely.

I use a combination of tools including a 320-question Nutritional Assessment, a thorough health history questionnaire, food and mood journal, HTMA testing, and blood work assessment. I like to work with clients for a minimum of three months, as this is a process and it does take time. You should be ready to put in the work, because it does require effort, however, it is so worth it. I promise.

FAQs

your questions answered

What is functional nutrition?

Functional nutrition honors each person’s body as unique and understands what foods and nutrients best support balance and function for your specific needs.

How is it different?

It is different from the traditional approach, because it looks at what the actual root cause of your symptoms are. Prescription medications are a band aid, they don’t actually help bring the body back into balance. Alternatively, functional nutrition is based on the belief that the body is so innately intelligent that it has the ability to heal itself when given what it needs. We give the body what it needs and it heals.

What is an ntp?

An NTP is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, a certification earned by completing schooling through the Nutritional Therapy Association. NTPs are taught that there are six Foundations of Health, and when those get out of balance, symptoms and consequences result. By focusing on the Foundations, we can help people find their way back to health.

what is htma testing?

HTMA stands for “Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis”. It is a very cost-effective and informative form of testing that reflects both the mineral status and toxic elements present in the body. It is an excellent pairing with bloodwork, as it shows what is inside the cell, whereas blood work shows what is in the blood. The two tests together give a very complete picture and helps us further validate our approach.

Can you use bloodwork from my doctor?

Yes! If you have recent bloodwork (within the last six weeks) I can review it. I can also order any blood work for you myself. Many times clients will have some bloodwork from their doctor, but we want to order additional markers. Know that I do not work with insurance, so anything ordered through me will be an out-of-pocket expense, but I do my best to keep your costs minimal.

how long will it take me to feel better?

It is commonly said that for every year you have been experiencing symptoms, expect it to take at least a month to experience positive changes. You should be committed to making real, long-lasting change. We may work together for only three months in some cases, in others it could take a year or longer. It is just dependent on your personal situation.
